Asinara & Stintino Day Trips

These trips do not start in Alghero. Asinara is the island off Sardinia’s north-western tip, and its boats leave from Stintino, roughly 45 minutes to an hour by car from Alghero depending on traffic; a few list Porto Torres as the base. They are here because the most-reviewed one on this site is an Asinara sailboat day, and because people staying in Alghero do book them – but you are choosing a long day, not a short hop.

Good to know: Count the drive on both ends: you leave Alghero early and return after the tour, and the listings do not include transfers unless they say so. If the north-west is your main reason for coming, staying in Stintino is shorter than commuting from Alghero. Several listings here have no reviews yet; with a thin record, read the booking page twice before paying.

Frequently asked questions

Where do Alghero boat tours depart?

Most leave from the harbour below the old-town walls, but some start at Fertilia or inside the bay of Porto Conte. Read the meeting point on the booking page before you pay – the title says “Alghero” for all of them.

Can I visit Neptune’s Grotto on a boat tour?

Neptune’s Grotto at Capo Caccia is reached by a scheduled boat from the harbour or by the 654 steps of the Escala del Cabirol. We found no ticket for it in our current inventory, so a tour that sails past Capo Caccia should not be booked expecting to go inside.

Are Asinara and Stintino close to Alghero?

Stintino, where the Asinara boats leave, is roughly 45 minutes to an hour by car from Alghero depending on traffic. Those trips are listed here because visitors book them, but they are long days, and a few list Porto Torres as the base.

Will we see dolphins from Alghero?

Our inventory has a single dolphin-watching offer, run with a marine researcher. Sightings are never guaranteed, and the other boat trips here are scenery, coves and snorkelling rather than dolphin safaris.

Do I need a car in Alghero?

The old town and the harbour are walkable. Wineries, Lake Baratz, Porto Ferro and Nuraghe Palmavera are outside the city, so check on each booking page whether pick-up is included before you plan without a car.

What does Alghero not have?

Alghero is on Sardinia’s west coast, far from the Costa Smeralda and the Maddalena archipelago, which are separate trips from Olbia and have their own pages on our sister site. Its list of bookable experiences is shorter than a big resort’s – we show what is actually there.
